Wood Decks for Gardens and Pools
A deck is a different animal from a classic terrace. We usually build them around pools, over uneven ground, or as raised platforms in a corner of the garden, wherever concrete is too brutal and grass is not enough. Bare feet, splashing water, full sun all day: a deck takes more punishment than any other wooden surface, and we build it accordingly.

Wood Decor has been building decks across Novi Sad and the surrounding area for over a decade, as part of more than a thousand completed projects. We know which wood never splinters, how a board behaves when one side stays wet, and how to anchor a structure so it does not move after ten seasons. You can see all of it before you sign, on decks we have already built.

Materials and wood types
Material selection is stricter for a deck than for a terrace, because the conditions are harsher. We need wood that does not get slippery when wet, never splinters under a bare foot, and tolerates chlorine or salt from pool water. In practice that narrows the field to three reliable candidates: Siberian larch, bangkirai, and WPC for those who want zero maintenance.

On pool decks the structure gets special attention: stainless anchors, ventilation under the boards, and a fall that sends water back towards the pool drain. A wet deck without airflow rots in a couple of years; with the structure done right, it lasts as long as the house.
Siberian larch
Larch is a winner for most garden decks too. It is dense, naturally moisture-resistant and pleasant underfoot, since it never gets scorching hot the way stone or composite can. Oiled regularly it keeps its warm tone; left alone it greys out, which many people find looks just right around a pool.
Bangkirai
For decks that practically live in the water, bangkirai is the top league. It is so dense that water barely penetrates, it does not crack or splinter, and chlorine does not impress it at all. It costs more and its hardness demands experienced installation, but no other wood outlives it around a pool.
WPC as an alternative
WPC, a wood-polymer composite, is what we suggest to clients who want no maintenance whatsoever. It needs no oiling, holds its colour and never splinters. It is not real wood and you can feel that underfoot, and it runs warmer in summer, but for holiday homes and rentals it is often the most practical choice. We give you the pros and cons straight.

How we work
How the construction process works
First we come to see the terrain, because a deck almost always solves a problem: a slope, a height difference, a pool edge. Based on the survey we draw the board layout and structure, then send a fully itemised quote. With pools we are happy to get involved early, while the pool is still being built, since that is when supports and access hatches are easiest to plan.

Installation starts with anchoring the posts and bearers, levelled to the millimetre. The decking goes down with expansion gaps, hidden fixings and hand-finished edges at every transition. Before handover we inspect everything together, barefoot on the boards, because that is the only honest test of a deck.

Maintenance
A pool deck wants a wash at the start and end of the season, to remove chemical residue, leaves and any moss from shaded spots. Timber decks get oiled once a year after washing, ideally before summer, so the finish has time to cure before the first swim.

A WPC deck needs nothing beyond water and mild detergent. For every deck we build, the same applies as for our terraces: you receive a care guide, and if you prefer, an annual appointment where we do all of it for you. Plenty of clients around Novi Sad have stayed with us that way for years.
What affects the price
Square footage and material choice lead the list here as well, but with decks the structure weighs in heavily too. A raised platform on posts takes more labour and material than a deck sitting low on flat ground, and a curved line around a pool costs more than straight cuts.

Extras that move the figure include steps, built-in benches, integrated lighting and access hatches for pool equipment. Each appears as its own line in the quote, so you decide what goes in now and what can wait for a second phase. The site visit and the quote are free and carry no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a wooden deck slippery when wet?
Properly chosen and properly installed wood is not slippery even when soaked. We use species with naturally good grip, lay the boards with gaps that drain water instantly, and avoid glossy film-forming finishes around pools. On request we also fit grooved anti-slip boards in the busiest walking zones.
Can the deck run right up to the pool edge?
Yes, and it is the most common request. We shape the edge by hand, with a softly rounded board profile and stainless connections that handle permanent moisture. Ideally we join the project while the pool is still under construction, but we also work around existing pools, anchoring carefully so the waterproofing stays untouched.
Wood or WPC, which should I choose?
Honestly, it depends on you. Real wood looks better, feels better underfoot and can be renewed by sanding, but wants oiling once a year. WPC asks for nothing beyond washing, but runs hotter in summer and does not age gracefully. We bring samples of both to the site visit, and the decision usually makes itself.
How long does a pool deck last?
With the right structure, ventilation and basic care, a larch deck lasts fifteen years and more, and bangkirai considerably longer. What matters most is what you never see: stainless fixings and a proper fall for drainage. That is why our warranty covers the structure, not just the visible boards.
