Wood Painting & Protection

Outdoor wood lives exactly as long as its protection does, it is as simple as that. Wood painting and protection is work we do every day, on our own structures and on other people's: terraces, fences, pergolas, facade cladding, gates, garden furniture. We bring colour back to greyed terraces, youth back to cracked fences, and give new timber a finish that will guard it for years.

The difference between a paint job that lasts one season and one that lasts five is not a more expensive can, it is the preparation. We first wash or sand the wood down to a sound layer, then choose the coating to match the species, the exposure and the look you want. That is how we have worked across Novi Sad and the surrounding area for over ten years, through more than a thousand projects.

Our work

This is what it looks like when we finish

Materials and coating types

A coating is not chosen from a catalogue, it is chosen from the wood and its job. A floor that gets walked on, a fence that takes rain from the west, and a pergola roasting in the sun need three different answers, even when they are the same species. We work only with proven professional systems, because our own terraces have shown us what holds and what does not.

At the core you choose between three paths: stains that keep the grain visible, oils that feed the wood from within, and opaque paints that give it an entirely new tone. Each has its place, and we show you all three on a sample of your own wood before you decide.

Stains and glazes

A stain is a transparent or semi-transparent coating that blocks UV and moisture while leaving the grain on show. It is ideal for fences, pergolas and facade cladding, anywhere wood should still look like wood. Thin-layer stains are easier to renew, thick-layer ones last longer: we tell you on site which makes more sense for your case.

Wood oils

Oil forms no film on the surface; it soaks in and nourishes the wood from the inside, which makes it the first choice for terraces and anything walked on. It never peels or cracks, and renewal is quick, with no sanding. A greyed terrace after washing and oiling is a transformation clients never forget.

Opaque paints

Opaque paint hides the grain but offers the strongest UV protection and total freedom of colour, from Scandinavian white to anthracite. We choose it for joinery, gates and fences that follow the colour of the house, and for older wood whose grain has already been scarred by repairs. A quality system of primer plus two coats holds for years.

How we work

How the work process looks

First we assess the wood in person, because everything follows from its condition: sometimes pressure washing is enough, sometimes it needs sanding down to sound timber, and occasionally a few boards must be replaced before any painting. Based on the inspection you get a quote with preparation, materials and labour clearly separated.

The work itself runs without rushing and without skipping steps: masking the surroundings, preparing the substrate, primer where needed, then the coats with proper drying time in between. We work on days without rain or harsh sun, because a coating applied in thirty-five degree heat does not last. At the end we inspect everything together, layer by layer.

Maintenance

Protecting wood is not a one-off job, it is a rhythm. Oiled surfaces get refreshed once a year, stains every two to three years, opaque paints even less often, depending on sun and rain exposure. Our advice never changes: renew the coating while it still looks good, because that is when there is no sanding and no big expense.

After every job we leave you the exact product name and shade we used, so you can renew it yourself if you like. And for those who would rather not think about it, we keep a record and call you when your terrace or fence is due for a refresh. A small service that keeps the wood forever young.

What affects the price

The biggest share of a painting job is not the paint, it is the preparation. New, clean timber needs only the coating; old, cracked, previously badly painted wood needs stripping, sanding and patching, and that is where the price is made. Surface area matters too, and so does complexity, since a fence painted picket by picket goes slower than a flat floor, as does the working height.

Finally, the chosen coating system plays its part, because professional oils and stains cost more but last twice as long. After a free inspection anywhere around Novi Sad you receive an itemised quote, so you see exactly where every dinar goes and what you get for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a greyed terrace get its original colour back?

Yes, and it is the job we enjoy most. The grey patina is only a surface layer: after washing with a dedicated cleaner or light sanding, healthy full-colour wood appears underneath. We then oil it and the terrace looks like its first year. Our clients' before-and-after photos say more than any words could.

When is the best time to paint outdoor wood?

Spring and early autumn, when temperatures are moderate and the nights are frost-free. Summer work is possible in the morning hours and in the shade, but in midday heat a coating dries too fast and bonds poorly. Rainy days are, of course, a pause. We plan around the forecast, and that is why our finishes last.

How often does the coating need renewing?

It depends on the system and the exposure: terrace oils once a year, stains on fences and pergolas every two to three years, opaque paints usually less often. South and west facing surfaces wear faster than northern ones. After the job you receive our suggested renewal rhythm written for your exact surfaces.

Do you paint wood that you did not build?

Of course. A large part of our work is exactly that: terraces, fences and pergolas someone else built that the owner wants to preserve. We come, assess the condition, tell you honestly whether a renewal pays off or the wood is due for replacement, and then do what is smartest for you, not what is most profitable for us.
